A sports utility vehicle is a generic marketing term for a vehicle similar to a station wagon.
Although designs vary, SUVs have historically been mid-size passenger vehicles with a body-on-frame chassis similar to that found on light trucks.
Most SUVs are designed with an engine compartment, a combined passenger and cargo compartment, and no dedicated trunk such as in a station wagon body. Most mid-size and full-size SUVs have three rows of seats with a cargo area directly behind the last row of seats.
Bodies of SUVs have recently become more aerodynamic, but the sheer size and weight keeps their fuel economy poor.
Early SUVs were descendants from commercial and military vehicles such as the World War II Jeep and Land Rover.
SUVs have been popular for many years with rural buyers due to their off-road capabilities.

Ford Endeavour
Ford has seen great success with Endeavor. The big-sized SUV is sold in both all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. Equipped with advanced features and stylish looks, Endeavor has been one of the best selling SUVs in India.
Ford Endeavor has an overall length of 5060 mm, overall width of 1788 mm and overall height of 1826 mm.
The SUV, with wheel base of 2860 mm, has ground clearance of 210 mm. Its 2953 cc engine delivers maximum power of 156 PS (115Kw) @ 3200 rpm and maximum torque of 380 Nm (38.7 kgm) @ 2500 rpm.
There are two versions of the SUV sold in the Indian auto market - Ford Endeavour 2.5L 4x2 and Ford Endeavour 3.0L 4x4.
The high-end version Ford Endeavour 3.0L 4x4 has features like air conditioner, power windows, power door locks, power steering, anti-lock braking system, immobiliser, cup holders, rear wash wiper, alloy wheels, central locking, steering adjustment, tachometer, child safety locks, front fog lights, rear defroster, leather seats, FM radio and CD player.
The Ford Endeavour costs Rs 17.1 lakh to Rs 19.74 lakh, ex showroom Delhi.

Mahindra Scorpio
Scorpio was a winner right from its launch. Mahindra's first SUV built for the international market, has won several prestigious awards. It has seen great success in rural areas of the country due to its sporty looks and off-road capacity.
